New rules on the way for treasure hunters

New laws about finding buried treasure on the Island have taken their first steps through the House of Keys.

Yesterday the Treasure Bill was given its first reading with new laws about what happens when archaeological finds are unearthed.

Current laws date back to the 1500s and see finders go to court to decide what should happen to the treasure.

Allison Fox is from Manx National Heritage - she says a hoard of silver Viking coins and ingots in Glenfaba highlighted the need for the law to be updated:
